Dialup service to be discontinued effective 5/30/2009
The Telecommunications Division of the Office of Information Technology has announced that the University's
dial-up internet service will be discontinued effective May 30, 2009. The use of this service has been
steadily declining for several years. Currently, less than 1% of the University uses the dial-up modems;
and they carry significant operating costs. The savings from this action will be diverted to more widely
utilized services that will benefit the broader University community.
For those needing to make alternative arrangements, information on current providers can be found at these
sites: http://www.high-speed-internet-access-guide.com/dialup
and http://www.ispcompared.com. There are options
available for every situation and budget including; DSL, cable, wireless, satellite, or dial-up.
Alternatively, most public libraries offer free internet access.
